Have you ever had a show that just hits you like a ton of bricks and just sticks with you (in a good way)?
I’ve got a few, but Dark is at the top of that list for me.
The show spans three seasons of the inner workings of a small town in Germany and examines the (very) intertwined secrets of four families in that town.
I’m honestly not sure how to best describe the show, but it’s some sort of mix of the mythology of Lost, the character development of The Leftovers, and the deep philosophical family dynamics of Six Feet Under. It’s also no coincidence that those are three of my favorite shows ever. And being a parent, it stuck with me even more.
I really don’t want to give too much away in trying to tell you about it, but this isn’t your typical “boy who goes missing” show that you think it might be if you read about it.
I’ll also say you’re doing yourself a disservice if you watch it with the English dub — it just looks/sounds weird. While it takes a little extra work and attention, watch with subtitles and its original German sound. It’s also a very complex show that is NOT a show you can watch while you’re scrolling through Twitter or Facebook (also, get off freaking Facebook), so the subtitles are almost good in that they keep your attention on the screen.
I’ll stop there and (hopefully) let the trailer convince you to give it a shot. Let me know what you think!
