Jussie Smollett…Covington Catholic…Covfefe….Colin Kaepernick…
What do all of those things have in common?
They’re distractions.
Facebook…Google…Time Warner…Twitter…NewsCorp…Disney….Viacom…NBC Universal…
What do all of those things have in common?
They’re outlets used to distract us.
What are we being distracted from?
Everything that matters.
Everything.
Who benefits from this distraction?
Not us.
These are the people who have been benefitting:
THOSE are the things that have mattered over the past 40+ years.
Jobs have been outsourced overseas to increase quarterly profits. While none of that has gone back to the average worker.
CEO compensation has grown 940% since 1978. While worker compensation has risen only 12% during that time.
Monopolies have been allowed to consolidate (fester). While small businesses have been absolutely SCREWED (crushed).
The top 1% has taken $47T dollars from the bottom 90% to 1975 to 2018. Said another way, every American in the bottom 90% has lost an average of $1,144 per month during that period than if we’d just kept wealth distribution the same as the post-WWII period.
And in a more recent example…
While you were arguing with (or losing) friends over whether to wear a mask or not. Or whether to get vaccinated or not… THIS is what’s been happening: How Big Tech Won the Pandemic: A year ago even the tech giants were anxious. Now they have so much money it’s awkward.
We live in an elaborate Ponzi scheme designed to benefit the uber elite.
What do we do about it?
Stop taking the bait!
We’re intentionally being distracted by 95% of the stuff you see on CNN or Fox News or MSNBC or whatever cable news garbage people watch. And it’s probably closer to 99.9% if you go into the realm of Facebook or YouTube or whatever social media cesspools we all swim in.
I get it — it’s incredibly easy to fall into our partisan lines and scream through a computer screen at Aunt Phyllis for spouting some anti-vax nonsense. I’ve done it too. But I promise you have WAY more in common with Aunt Phyllis than you do with Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk or Bill Gates.
Focus on the things that matter.
Educate your kids.
Get involved in town/county politics.
Support small businesses. Shop local.
Change what you can.
Stop wasting time on partisan fights that are meant to distract you. Political parties are corporations.
(Notice I haven’t said anything about Republicans or Democrats? And that I haven’t mentioned any politicians’ names…? Especially one you might be expecting)
At risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist…there are powerful (and dangerous) people controlling the world.
What we think. What we talk about. The way we talk about it with each other.
The more we argue about dumb shit like Ben Shapiro’s “own” of Chris Cuomo or Jake Tapper’s sick burn of Candace Owen…the less we’re focusing on the fact that the people who are controlling us are intentionally dividing us for their personal gain. As well as the fact that we can be more powerful than them if we stop fighting each other over the aforementioned dumb shit.
They think we’re stupid. They think they can distract us. Don’t prove them right.
We might be the underdogs in this fight. But we have the power if we want it.
As always…let’s end with a song:
